Promoting ESC opportunities by flashmob

Two volunteers of Farmer’s Association from Cristuru Secuiesc, Timi and Sara, promoted volunteering in the local community just before their project has ended. The volunteers organized a flashmob together with their fellow volunteers from the Association, they also involved the international volunteers of the Youth Association from Transylvania.

The event was organized under the project called “R.U.R.A.L. Volunteering Reinventing Urban and Rural Activities and Landscapes through Volunteering”, and it was held between 27-28th of January. The primary objective of the event was to promote international volunteering among the local community and the goals of the ESC programme. The event was rescheduled several times due to the pandemic, so instead of the date scheduled for the 5th of December, we created an opportunity to meet at the end of January 2022.

In addition to the volunteers working in Székelykeresztúr, we invited international volunteers from Miercurea Ciuc, Brasov and Sovata to participate the event. The morning program started with a workshop, where we discussed about individual goals and motivations in the form of role-playing games and small group discussions. In the afternoon, local volunteers joined in, for whom Timi and Sara, with the help of their fellow volunteers, presented the nature and objectives of the ESC program. After this the youngsters started practicing their flashmob in the afternoon hours.

On the second day, 28th of January, the flashmob planned the previous day was presented in the central part of the town, and after a short break participants returned to the venue to close the two-day program. Accordingly, in the second half of the day, the young people discussed the importance of the event, shared informations about their own activities in small groups, introduced each other to the region in which they are volunteering, and talked about their long-term perspectives. We closed and evaluated the 2-day event by using cards picting different animals. We shared feelings, thoughts, things we learned. After that closing session, all particpants returned their Romanian home towns.
