Valeria and Julia at the Madarasi Hargita

The Madarasi Hargita is the remain of a volcanic mountain and the highest peak of the Harghita Mountains (1801m), which is the longest and youngest volcanic mountain range in the Central Group of the Eastern Carpathians. Hiking until the top from the little village resort hotels takes about one hour. The path is not hard, it is just a pleasant walk.

The peak is a holy place for Szeklers. A Hungarian novel says that a long time ago a local boy, called Ábel went to the top of the peak, screaming the name of God and asking out loud to him the reason why Szekler people had to suffer more than Hungarians. God listened to the boy and answered to him: Szeklers were suffering more than Hungarians as much as they were more of them. After this event the peak became a sanctuary for locals.

On the top of the mountain the scenery is breathtaking: almost all Szeklerland is lying at your feet. You cannot forget it. The huge number of wooden traditional columns, hungarian flags, rock piles and crosses create an amazing mysterious atmosphere. We believe that overall this place will astonish you. It is also the most popular ski resort in Szeklerland, another great reason to visit it!
